The Foundation seeks to leverage private dollar investments to quickly implement, test and disseminate impactful changes to public education in Michigan.
We have started this effort in Detroit, an area of great need and potentially huge impact. These changes will also be implemented in other priority schools in the state that current efforts have failed to provide students with a high quality education.
Our approach supports a “universal choice” system in which students would be free to pick from a variety of school choices including charters and traditional public schools. By developing a new, collaborative approach between the state of Michigan and local governments, this system seeks to jump start changes that will have swift, positive impact under a new performance framework:
